Lucid Lullabies takes place in the far future. Humans have developed a technology that allows one to delve into another's dreams. This was used by psychologists as a way to help their patients by locating certain imagery that the person's dream provided. This method was dubbed Dream Therapy, and was really only used if the patient either A) Refused to speak or B) Was having a hard time recollecting old memories. These patients would be taken to large facilities where they'd be put into a coma-like state, and they could only be awakened by the doctors themselves. Fast forward several more years. A deadly plague ravished all of the human race, killing all but a few. These few are the humans that had been currently undergoing dream therapy. They had survived due to the nature of the facilities themselves: It was heavily sanitized every day due to the possibility of sickness affecting the dream states of patients. The patients that survived the plague had been left in their comas for Extended Recording, which was a method used by psychologists who needed longer periods of time to retrieve data from dreams. About a year passed, and most patients were becoming accustomed to their dream lives. They were all in a lucid state of dreaming, meaning they had full control of their own thoughts and actions. It wasn't too long until they achieved the ability to jump into each others' dreams.
